Perhaps breakfast is not the right meal to eat at the Centurion Lounge, but it sounded good on paper: Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Fresh Berries sounded right up my alley, since I love ricotta pancakes and make them myself once in a blue moon when I have time. The breakfast buffet had also been rather depleted of eggs when I was there, and the nearly empty tray sat out for some time. The best things I ate were some pieces of fresh fruit, the berries adorning the pancakes, and a brownie from the lunch spread that was being set out just as I left. Bruised fruit, pretzels and Tillamook cheese, anyone? But I honestly was not too impressed. Much has been made of the American Express Centurion food, and I get it–U.S. Come on, AMEX–get the WiFi right, and worry about the food after that.Īmerican Express Centurion Lounge Menu and Food The WiFi was ok, although not anywhere near as fast as I'd have liked–it was significantly slower than the WiFi in all the hotels I stayed at, let alone my WiFi at home. The Centurion Lounge has quite a few work spaces and alcoves with power outlets, so unless the lounge is packed, you should have no problem finding a seat near a power outlet. Work Spaces / WiFi: One of the biggest pet peeves many travelers have with airports is that there never seem to be enough electrical outlets by the gate to recharge devices. It's great that the Las Vegas AMEX Centurion Lounge recognizes the need to accommodate families and kids with a playroom, and a shame that the newest AMEX Centurion Lounge a New York LaGuardia does NOT have a family room (although the Dallas location does). ![]() In the five years I spent reporting my book “ The Monopolists,” published in 2015, which chronicled the discovery of the board game’s invention, Hasbro declined to comment or acknowledge Magie’s role in originating the game. ![]() Monopoly story only reinforces the false, misogynistic, and all-too-common belief that Monopoly is, then and now, purely a man’s game. But, somewhat encouragingly, another common response was that Hasbro’s attempt to tout its new title as empowering to women, while ignoring a woman’s role in creating the game, was, at best, hypocritical. Critics on the left argued that the lopsided economics of the game aren’t actually promoting equal pay. Comments were hurled about “Get Out of Jail Free” cards tied to false #MeToo sexual-assault allegations and women trying to profit off of sexual-assault settlements. A number of right-wing pundits and Twitter users lamented that Hasbro has become too politically correct. The response has been, well, more Baltic than Boardwalk. In a promotional video featuring soft piano background music and scenes of girls soldering, sketching, and kicking ass in white lab coats, Hasbro notes that only ten per cent of patent holders are women. Women receive two hundred and forty dollars for passing Go, but men are stuck with the same two hundred dollars as in standard Monopoly. According to the press release, which makes no mention of Magie, the new title character, a smiling chestnut-haired woman in a blazer wielding a travel coffee cup, “is an advocate whose mission is to invest in female entrepreneurs.” The company claims that it’s the “first-ever game where women make more than men.” In this version, female players start out with nineteen hundred dollars in their coffers and male players receive a mere fifteen hundred. This week, Hasbro, which sells Monopoly, announced the latest incarnation of the game: Ms. “Girls have minds, desires, hopes, and ambition.” “We are not machines,” she told a reporter at the time of her slave advertisement. It came just three years after she filed a patent for the Landlord’s Game, today known to most consumers as the board game Monopoly. In 1906, Lizzie Magie, a feminist writer, activist, and game designer, who was then forty years old, placed an ad for herself as a “young woman American slave.” She was, she wrote, “intelligent, educated, refined true honest, just, poetical, philosophical broad-minded and big-souled, and womanly above all things.” A petite brunette with “gray-green eyes,” she was, in her own description, “not beautiful, but very attractive, features full of character and strength, yet truly feminine.” The stunt, which was meant to raise awareness about women’s inequality, including Magie’s own weekly pay as a stenographer, made headlines nationwide. ![]() It looks simple but it’s quite deep in terms of modulation and routing options. It’s such a versatile analog synth with a unique quad filter system built in (with switchable analog filters including a convincing 303 filter and a great ARP filter). Sorry there is no one special “landsky” device that defines my sound but there’s one synth that gets used in almost every production I do and that’s the Studio Electronics ATC-Xi. So aux busses and patchbays are mandatory for my way of working. Huh, is there such a Landsky sound? :) I’d say it’s definitely a combination of things, but the core is always the mix on the analog desk and lots of different delays and effects on sends that get automated throughout the whole track in a live manner. What piece of studio equipment or production process defines the Martin Landsky sound? It’s always good to have plans but even better to get rid off these sometimes. Quite often though I end up with something completely different, where the initial part is even not covered anymore. I usually try to work on this single element for a while to get a feel for it and to build images in my mind where to take this element to, then the rest is built around that. After each production I zero the whole studio and start with a blank paper.įor inspirations I start to build ideas around, this could be a loop, a sound, a beat I programmed, a field recording, a vocal, you name it. I don’t use any templates or pre-patched routings. Oh there’s no such routine, everything always starts from scratch and always based on an idea, which could be literally anything. How do you typically begin constructing a track? Give us some insight into your production process. All in all The Dx100 and A/DA make a very good couple especially in the bass department. For me the Analog Flanger has such a wide range of modulation that gets really crazy. I’ve never heard another FM synth with such a tone, try it and you’ll know what I am talking about.Įffects wise the A/DA Flanger is unmatched. It was sold as a home keyboard for kids actually and the output stages in there are bloody wack, but in a sweeet way. Don’t be fooled of its small size and very very plastic housing. My favourite synth is maybe the DX100, the absolutely best FM synthesizer ever made in my opinion. Hmm, hard to tell, there are so many things I really love.
